THE RULES

The necessary fine print! We want you to win but you’ve gotta qualify…

 

  1. The UnderDog Brewing Competition is open to breweries operating as a registered business and registered for tax within Europe and the UK.
  2. Affiliates, trading partners and employees of any branch of the BarthHaas group are not eligible to win the UnderDog Brewing Competition.
  3. Entrants must be over 18 years of age.
  4. Registration must take place through the webform found the UnderDog Brewing Competition website at http://underdog.barthhaasX.com/register
  5. Entries must be submitted with a completed Beer Info Form. The Beer Info Form is emailed to registrants after registration and is also available by request from plucky@barthhaasX.com. Any entries submitted without a completed Beer Info Form may be rejected at the discretion of BarthHaas X.
  6. The entry beer must be brewed to a recognisable hop-forward style. The style must be named in the Beer Info Form. The BJCP 2015 style guidelines and descriptions will be used to assess each entry’s accuracy, available at: https://www.bjcp.org/docs/2015_Guidelines_Beer.pdf
  7. Amarillo, Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe, Sabro, Galaxy, Vic Secret or Enigma varieties of hops in any format cannot be used at any point in the making of an UnderDog entry beer.
  8. The Chinook hop variety must make up a minimum of 50% of the total hop addition used when brewing the entry beer. All formats of Chinook hops are allowed, including but not limited to whole leaf, T90 and BBC pellets. To determine proportions, competitors shall refer to T90 pellet equivalency rates provided by their hop supplier representative to make any conversions. For any product that does not have a T90 equivalency conversion, at least 50% of that product addition should be the Chinook iteration of that product. Any growing region is allowed.
  9. While natural adjuncts, food-safe extracts & fruit additions are allowed as part of the brewing process, the spirit of the competition is to celebrate Chinook and emphasize its attributes.
  10. Entries must be delivered to one of the two receiving locations before 5pm on Tuesday 15th March 2022. The receiving locations addresses are:

11.  Entries must be submitted only in clearly labelled “small pack format” of cans or small bottles. A volume of approximately 8 litres is required. Examples of this breakdown include: 24 bottles of 330mL each or 18 cans of 440mL each. Entries with insufficient volumes may not be eligible to win.

12.  Webshop Voucher: Entrants receive a webshop voucher discount code which entitles the purchaser to 15% off Chinook purchases on web purchases only subject to availability. The code may be used one time per customer to a maximum total discounted volume of 25kg. Discount applies to all formats, crop years and growing regions. The discount does not apply to contracted volumes, or contracts going into the future. Limit one discount code per brewery.

13.  Judging Criteria: All eligible entries will be judged purely on the criteria as described on “Competition Info” webpage of the UnderDog website found at http://underdog.barthhaasX.com/the-competition Judging criteria is also available by request from plucky@barthhaasX.com. No other criteria will be considered during the judging process to determine the UnderDog winners.

14.  All eligible entries will be judged by a panel of independent and experienced judges using the blind tasting method.

15.  The competition prizes are as follows:

a.     First Prize Champion: £1500 hop credit, two (2) guaranteed spots on a BarthHaas X Hop Harvest Tour as well as up to £500 towards Hop Harvest Tour transportation per person, and the brewery’s choice of one Brewing Solutions prize as described below. Transportation fees will be coordinated through BarthHaas X.

b.    Second and Third Prize each: £500 hop credit, and the brewery’s choice of one Brewing Solutions prize as described below.

16. Brewing Solutions prize options are:

  • Academic Deep Dive: Enrollment in the complete five-part online Hop Flavorist Course to become a Master of hops. The full course description is found at the Hops Academy website: https://www.barthhaas.com/en/academy/hop-flavorist-course . (OR)
  • Premium Brewing Experience: Brew at the BarthHaas Campus brewery alongside the Brewing Solutions Team for up to two days to execute joint hopping experiments with a variety of hop products, use the extensive Campus equipment, and build practical understanding of hop flavor in beer. Project details to be confirmed between Brewing Solutions Team and winning brewery. Travel, subsistence, and accommodation expenses not included.

17.  Beneficiary: One person must be named on the Beer Info Form as the “Lead Brewer,” and they will be the primary beneficiary of the Brewing Solutions prize component. The winning brewery will be able to substitute another employee to use in place of the named beneficiary only with the advance agreement of BarthHaas X. The attendees to the Hop Harvest Tour, and to which tour, will be confirmed between BarthHaas X and the First Prize winning brewery.

18.  Time Limit: All prize components must be booked or redeemed by 30th March 2023.

19.  Hop Credit: The prize payment will be disbursed through one of two methods. Either a deposit will be made within 30 days from receipt of details of a valid business banking account, or equivalent credit will be applied to any current or future BarthHaas X contracts, at BarthHaas X’s discretion.

20.  Currency Conversion: If the winning brewery receives direct prize payment and elects to collect it in a currency other than Pounds Sterling, then the prize will be paid based on the exchange rate at the time of transfer. Any additional fees incurred due to the conversion and transfer will be deducted from the prize fund before the transfer takes place.

21.  Data Use: By participating, you agree that BarthHaas X can use your contact information solely for the purposes of the UnderDog Brew Competition. All personal data will be stored securely in-line with the General Data Protection Regulations. They will be deleted from our records when we have no further legitimate business use for them, or upon request.

22.  If you choose to add yourself to our newsletter database, all data will be handled in-line with our personal data and privacy policy which can be found on the BarthHaas X website at https://www.barthhaasx.com/privacy-policy-cookie-restriction-mode
